President Kennedy came from a wealthy family of 7 brothers and sisters. "He created the a sense of excitement, hope and confidence" (By Ben Bradlee). He was a young president who was loved by many people. His presidency was cut short because he was assassinated. Read the directions and answer the question on the attached handout.

YOU ARE ALMOST DONE AND YOU ARE AWESOME IF YOU STILL ARE WORKING. You learned that African-Americans and Mexican-Americans had to go throw movements to gain equal rights. In the same manners, women created several groups to help them gain equal rights. Read pages 327 and 328. Answer the questions on the attached handout.

If you turn in your Friday assignment (May 29), you are aware there were protests, riots, and craziness going on in our country. Again, during this weekend, there were many protests and riots going on in the United States because an African-American man, George Floyd, was killed by Minneapolis, Minnesota policemen. I want you to look for 2 videos that are at least 5 minutes long of these protests and riots. First read and follow the directions of the attached handout for directions. REMEMBER THIS IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING. YOU WILL REMEMBER THIS HISTORICAL TIME...ALONG WITH COVIT-19.

We just finished the unit of the Civil Rights Movement where the African-Americans were abused. After so 60 years of this movement, United States is still dealing with police brutality. Right now, there is a state of emergency going on in the United States.
PLEASE WATCH ALL VIDEOS. Read the directions of the document AND ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS. BE AWARE THIS WILL BE HISTORY ON DAY.

After senator McCarthy incident, the beginning of the Cold War started. Cuba is a an Island that is 90 miles away from United States. During the Cold War, Cuba became very good friends with Russia and they were both communists. Remember, communists is when the government rules and controls the country and the people are not free. President Kennedy was afraid of Cuba and Russia because they were communists. That is when "THE BAY OF PIGS INVASION" happened. Read the directions on the attached document.

The video is just a ice breaker. After you watch the video, you will hopefully understand why you are learning about the VIETNAM WAR. Read the "Why Study History?"article. There are 11 paragraphs in the article. Write one sentence for each paragraph...OF WHAT IMPRESSED YOU THE MOST IN EACH PARAGRAPH.
So you should have one paragraph with 11 sentences when you are done.

Now... you are going to study about COMMUNISM in United States. After the end of World War II, some countries like Russia, Vietnam, North Korea, and China became Communists. Communists is when the government makes all the rules, controls the country, the people do not vote-do not own property, and the people are not free. Because of prior reasons, United States did not want communist to enter into United States. Read the directions on the attached document.

During the time of the Chicano movement, there was also the farmers movement. (Remember--farmers are the ones who pick our fruit and vegetables so we could enjoy eating them.) In this movement, Cesar Chavez was leader. PLEASE WATCH THE 2 VIDEOS so you can write your 10 sentence paragraph. Read the directions before writing the answers to your paragraph.

The Civil Rights Movement continued with the Mexican-American fighting for equal rights. The movement turned into the Chicano Movement. On August 29, 1970 one of the most unimaginable protest turned horrible. Please watch both videos. You will write 10 sentences paragraph. Tell me who was the MOST IMPORTANT PERSON WHO GOT KILLED.

These School Walkouts were held in East Los Angeles, Calif. and Rio Grande, Texas. These march was to be a quiet demonstration. Watch the videos and write a paragraph with 8 sentences and 2 SENTENCES OF WHAT IMPRESSED YOU THE MOST. THE SECOND VIDEO IS OF POOR QUALITY BUT, WATCH IT ANYWAY BECAUSE VERY INTERESTING CONTENT.

During the Civil Right Movements, the Mexican-American also experience racism. In these videos, you will learn about the Zoot Suit Riots in EAST LOS ANGELES, CA. At the end of your paragraph type 2 sentences of what impressed you the must. When you are done you should HAVE 10 SENTENCES.

During the Civil Right Movements, many African American parents, grandparents, uncle, aunts, etc. did not want to protest any longer because they were afraid of going to jail, losing their jobs, or being killed. So there was another group that volunteered to CONTINUE WITH THE CIVIL RIGHT MOVEMENT. Use the "Children's Crusade of 1963" document to write your paragraph. PLEASE watch the ENTIRE VIDEO, it is a couple of minutes longer, BUT IT IS VERY WORTH IT. It gets really exciting and a new AMAZING HISTORY IS WRITTEN. THIS IS ONE AMAZING REASON WHY YOU STUDY HISTORY.

After Bloody Sunday, (March 7, 1965) another attempt to walk from Selma to Montgomery (the state capital of Alabama) was organized. This march was March 21 and many supporters joined this great march. One famous person, Martin Luther King, got involved to march with the African American people. The second video shows Martin Luther King making his famous speech. Please listen to the entire speech.

Still fighting for more rights, about six hundred people led by John Lewis and Hosea Williams began a fifty-four mile march. However, they were stop by the city police, troopers, and even the mail-men. These men would cause the horrible day now called BLOODY SUNDAY.

In Nashville, Tennessee, there were "SIT INS" in the "Woodward Department Store". This was a NON VIOLENT DIRECT CAMPAIGN to end racial segregation at lunch counters in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Watch the videos and complete the "SIT INS" document when you are done watching the videos. Make sure you read the directions

In keeping with school desegregation, watch videos about the Little Rock 9 and their significant battle with public education and segregation. When you are done, you will write a paragraph in the "Little Rock 9" document. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE DIRECTIONS

During the 1950, African-American were tired of segregation, discrimination, and not having freedom. So they started to protest and these protests created many movements. These movements would be the beginning of the "African Civil Rights Movement". Read the directions on the "Rosa Parks--Ride to Justice" handout.

I wanted to offer an EXTRA CREDIT opportunity for 100 points. Since we are studying the Vietnam War, some of you might have relatives or know someone who lived through this experience. If you do and they are willing to share their experience, read the document below to see you can get the information for them .

The fight for civil rights was focused on different areas in society. Schools were one focus. Read about CALIFORNIA'S desegregation case dealing with the separation of students in schools.

After the American Civil War, the U.S. passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment dealing with the rights of former slaves. During this time, what is know as Reconstruction period, many people fought for equality for African Americans. While others fought against it. With the passage of the court case Plessy v. Ferguson in 1892, systems of legal segregation developed throughout the U.S. which allowed for the separation of races. Read about them on the slides and complete the "Origins of the Civil Rights Movement" document.

We are going to back track to learn more about the slaves. In this video, you will learned where the slaves came and why they were traded.You will write a paragraph so it is best to stop the video and write notes while watching the video. Use the "The Atlantic slave trade..." document. Read the directions and write your paragraph there.

The African American Soldier played a victorious role during all the U. S. wars. Watch the video "The American Veteran: African American Veterans". Then read the article "How did World War II help start the civil rights movement? and answer the questions on the "How did World War II help start the civil rights movement?" document.

Before we study the Civil Right movements of 1950 through the 1964, you really have to understand how African-Americans lived before that. After you see how they lived, you will be able to see the importance of THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT MORE CLEARLY. Before you watch the video, it is best to read the questions. Open the "What was life for African-Americans prior to the Civil Rights Movement' document and answer the questions.

After so many years, the Vietnam Veterans were recognized for their military service. It is important that you watch the 4 videos so you could see how they were honored. A "Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall" was built in Washington DC to honor the dead. I have attached a "Vietnam Memorial Wall INFO-GRAPHIC" document. Use this document to answer the questions on the attached "The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall" document.

The fall of Saigon (the capital of South Vietnam) was April 29, 1975. President Richard Nixon called it VIETNAMIZATION, the end of the Vietnam War. Evacuation of Americans and their family and Vietnam civilians (who did not want to stay in South Vietnam), had to leave as soon as possible. You will see how dramatic it was.

The attitudes about World War II and Vietnam were very different. Watch the video (a couple of times) so you can learn the differences. Open the "How WWII and Vietnam Veterans Were Treated Differently" document and write the difference on how the the two groups of veterans were treated.

As mentioned in the earlier reading, American involvement in Vietnam begins in 1954, with President Eisenhower. As the years went on, American involvement in Vietnam increased leading to full on war in 1964 with President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Why did America fight in the Vietnam War? Out of all the wars America has fought, this is the only war the USA left, or pulled out, and some even say we lost the war. The U.S. won most of the battles, killed more of the enemy soldiers, but lost the will to support an unending war.
Your first assignment is to understand why America fought in this war and the root causes of it by review the Cold War between the USA and USSR (Russia)
